KiwiRail — Great Journeys Platform

KiwiRail operates train services throughout New Zealand and ferry services between the North and the South Islands. With the launch of their ‘Great Journeys of New Zealand’, they were looking to consolidate multiple websites into a single world-class travel experience.

While competing on the world stage alongside other world-renowned train and ferry journeys, KiwiRail’s online experience was outdated and dispersed across multiple websites and legacy infrastructure. A planned new platform was an opportunity to consolidate these sites into a single unified experience for travellers.

We worked with KiwiRail through a customer-centred approach to understand, prototype and design a new platform for several services under a single tourism brand. Consolidating both rail and ferry journeys the platform needed to be adaptable for different traveller mindsets.

By better understanding how people consider travel we designed and delivered an extensible platform for Kiwis and international tourists alike to plan, book and be able to enjoy every aspect of their journeys across New Zealand. The new platform has exceeded the proposed metrics and continues to be enhanced.
