ACC Rideforever Hero

ACC Ride Forever motorcycle safety platform

Reducing motorcycle injuries with tools to educate and train riders.

Motorcycle injury is a major issue costing New Zealand taxpayers millions of dollars every year. As part of its injury prevention portfolio, ACC delivers Ride Forever to help reduce injury statistics through online training and practical courses.

Challenge.

Alongside physical ‘On Road’ safety courses, ACC was looking to improve access to the training and content for a wider group of New Zealand motorcycle riders. The intent led to identifying a range of options for tools and training that would reduce barriers to engagement, drive self-awareness and improve self-determination.

Solution.

Working sessions between ACC, riders and an e-learning expert informed the design and development of a suite of interactive learning modules. The modules contain video, tests and an array of support content users can view, test themselves on, get graded on and review learnings. They can then move on to the next topic or level of training.

Impact.

The online learning programme has been used broadly by large numbers of riders. Course completion and flow on enquiry and registration for the On Road courses exceeded target objectives. User interaction with bike technology and safety equipment information on the site has radically increased.

Working together to help reduce injuries.

For over 12 years, we have helped ACC design and deliver tools, apps, digital platforms and experiences intended to help critical audiences reduce injuries. Initiatives delivered have targeted elite sportspeople, motorcyclists, scooter riders and people who want to get fit and be more active.

Across ACC’s injury prevention portfolio – in the workplace, home safety and sport – the experiences delivered have made an impact and contributed to a reduction in the injury statistics. The reductions were achieved by understanding users, modelling solutions that address user motivations, and helping to minimise barriers to change. Reductions were possible by delivering platforms and products that enabled users to self-determine, self-serve and take action to help themselves.

ACC  implemented many positive solutions – and was rewarded with improved metrics on engagement, behaviour change and effect that has supported these strategies.
